Blog Post 1: Gesture + Scribble / Uncanny Valley

Gestures and Scribbles

For my first sketch, I was using the Andrew Loomis method from the video "Quick Pose Gesture Painting (CtrlPaint.com)". For my second sketch, I was using the straight line, S curve, and C curve method from the "How to Draw Gesture" video. The third sketch is actually just my favorite page of scribble drawings I did while doing my two hours of practice.

Creative Characters From Observations

I found this art during our face search in class and couldn't help but think of a fantastical beast similar to a dragon. While it is not the standard dragon, I imagined a creature similar to one with a very floppy snout. I believe my creature would avoid the uncanny valley because there is nothing in real life similar enough to it for someone to get that feeling. There is nothing very human like about it so I don't think many people would make that connection. I feel the only issue might be the tongue, in which case I would probably make it pointier so it avoids that.
