Blog 4: Stereotypes

Blog 4: Stereotypes Character Idea In a lot of fantasy videogames and other media, the main character either is or knows a wizard. Generally they are seen as wise or smart and "very old, the implication being that it takes one that much time studying before one can really be considered a true wizard" (TV Tropes). For the character I thought of creating, I want to go against the trope. The wizard would meet the main character and seem like an old wise wizard and then reveal that it was just a ruse and make the wizard foolish, clumsy, and young. This would be trope subversion because the "trope is set up to occur, but then the writer pulls a fast one on the audience, and the trope does not occur after all." (TV Tropes).  In order to flesh out my character as "real, believable, multi-faceted people, rather than shells which serve a purpose for the player" Wawro, A. (2021, August 24), I would create a reason for them to not be old and wise like they're a y...

Blog Post 3: Shape, Scale, Colors

Blog Post 3: Shape, Scale, Colors Gesture/Scribble During my thirty minutes of gesture drawing/scribbling, these were my three favorites. Shape: The three major shapes of my character is a triangle, a circle, and rectangles. I chose a triangular shape for the body shape because when doing my image research, I found that people that were more "Ambitious" and had "Determination" had more triangular shaped bodies and gestures. I chose a more circular shape for the head because in the Aesthetics of Game Art and Design, it states that "Circle: innocence, youth, energy, femininity" Chris Solarski (2021, August 24) and I wanted my character to look more youthful. Lastly, I gave my character rectangular legs because when I was looking up "Eccentric" I found more images that were longer and leaner.  Scale For the scale of my character, I chose to make my character that tall because "realistic and adult humans range from 7 to 8 head to body height...

Blog 2: Research from High Concept

Image
My High Concept I wanted to start brainstorming my character by creating a high concept similar to how we did in class so I used the same prompt and changed the words in the blanks. My high concept ending up being " This character is an inquisitive (adjective) being who also appears ambitious (adjective) and moves like a raven (animal). This character is described as eccentric (adjective) by the local communities who live outside of its hot (adjective) and dry (adjective) home. Often in the presence of one of these characters, it is said one feels a sense of determination (feeling)." Brainstorming Solarski's Mind Map Here is the link to my slides: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1hm1ogJFeaydUQBveVzS19HTmS0cFw7LgjjoPqyPXuHA/edit?usp=sharing  "Inquisitive" Fauna When researching "Inquisitive" Fauna, I found that most of the animals had these dark marks around their eyes. Some of the marks were more circular and some were more triangular so I tried...
