Blog 2: Research from High Concept
My High Concept
I wanted to start brainstorming my character by creating a high concept similar to how we did in class so I used the same prompt and changed the words in the blanks. My high concept ending up being "This character is an inquisitive (adjective) being who also appears ambitious (adjective) and moves like a raven (animal). This character is described as eccentric (adjective) by the local communities who live outside of its hot (adjective) and dry (adjective) home. Often in the presence of one of these characters, it is said one feels a sense of determination (feeling)."

"Inquisitive" Fauna
When researching "Inquisitive" Fauna, I found that most of the animals had these dark marks around their eyes. Some of the marks were more circular and some were more triangular so I tried drawing some of their eyes so that I could incorporate that into my character.
"Dry" Flora
When researching "Dry" Flora, I found a lot of that plants looked almost spiky. I decided to try drawing some of the more spiky looking flowers. I also noticed how most of the plants were different shades of brown so if I added color to my character, I would want them to have those same shades.
"Ambitious" People
When researching "Ambitious" People, I found a lot of them had more confident stances with broader shoulders so I decided to make some gesture/scribble drawings. I also noticed that a lot of the people had on suits but I wanted to make my character from a time period where those outfits didn't exist so I didn't add them.
"Ravens" in Cultures
When researching "Ravens" in Cultures, I found a lot of masks and other headwear that different cultures made. I deciding on trying to draw the masks themselves because I thought I might want to give my character a mask.
"Eccentric" Architecture
When researching "Eccentric" Architecture, I found that a lot of the structures were taller and leaner and had some unique gestures. I decided to try making some of those structures into gesture/scribble drawings.
"Hot" Clothing
When initially researching "Hot" Clothing, I didn't quite find what I was looking for but after switching to "clothes made for hot weather", I found that a lot of the clothes were loose and wavy. I wanted to try drawing some of these clothes and mimicking their texture.
"Determination" in Historic References
When researching "Determination" in Historic References, I found that a lot of the images had someone raising a fist in the air or holding a flag up in the air. I decided on drawing some more gesture/scribble drawings so that I could understand their poses better.
My Character
Physical
When trying to incorporate the elements of my mind-map, I gave my character darker outlines around their eyes, spikier hair, broader shoulders, wavy and loose clothing, and a confident fist raised in the air. I had a hard time trying to incorporate the ravens and eccentric gestures into my character. In the future, I think I might add a "raven-like" mask or make the character taller and leaner to match the structure of the more eccentric buildings.
Sociological
My character was an explorer who was told of a kingdom that was turned into a desert and is now currently adventuring in that desert trying to solve the mystery of why it became that way.
Psychological
My character is motivated by a constant need to help others seek the truth and is annoyed whenever someone lies to themselves or others.
Growth
My character starts off wanting to solve the mystery out of their own curiosity but becomes much more serious as the game goes on.
Development
The player eventually learns more about the characters past as they game goes on and how it might be related to what happened to this kingdom.
